Educational Objectives
To accommodate the needs of social and economic development, this major aims to train students to broaden their global environmental vision and pursue sustainable development, build a solid theoretical foundation of environmental engineering disciplines, and systematically master the knowledge of pollution prevention, plumbing engineering, environmental planning, and resource protection in terms of water, air, solid waste and others. The purposes of this major is to foster engineering and technical personnel working in environmental engineering disciplines who are able to work on environmental planning, design, construction, management, research and development, monitoring and analysis, and environmental impact assessment in government sectors (e.g. planning and construction, environmental protection, economic management), design organizations, environmental protection enterprises, and scientific research organizations.
Fundamental Courses
The fundamental courses include Water Pollution Control Engineering, Air Pollution Control Engineering, Solid Waste Treatment and Disposal, Environmental Monitoring Technology, Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Planning and Management, and Ecological Restoration, etc. The main practice activities include experiments of various fundamental courses, water pollution control course design, air pollution control course design, environmental assessment course design, cognitive practice, production practice, graduation practice, and graduation design. We have signed industry-university-research cooperation agreements with a number of companies concerned, and recommend students to have their internships in various organizations like environmental monitoring stations, health and epidemic prevention stations, quality control sectors, and third-party environmental monitoring companies.
Job Prospects
In the context of the country’s establishment and practice of the concept that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets” and its upholding of the basic national policy of conserving resources and protecting environment, there is a huge demand for talents in the environmental protection industry. With the potential of a rapid salary increase, graduates may serve environmental protection enterprises, government environmental protection departments at all levels, large and medium-sized enterprises and other organizations in environmental engineering design and operations, pollutant management, environmental monitoring and analysis, environmental assessment, and environmental management. For many years, a stable proportion of about 25% of students in this major apply for the graduate program related to the major to be poised as higher-level environmental protection technical personnel.
