Three Gorges Aviation College (tentative), approved in 2020 by Hubei Provincial People's Government, is a full-time, privately-run, application-oriented undergraduate institution, marking the province's first venture into establishing an aviation-focused undergraduate college. Its establishment is strategically aligned with the national agenda, capitalizing on China's aerospace industry designated as a national strategic developing sector, the rapid growth of the low-altitude economy, and Hubei's strategic vision to emerge as a leading aviation and aerospace province, in conjunction with the ambitious endeavor to create a world-class aviation logistics hub. Amidst the backdrop of optimizing the provincial higher education landscape and in line with the "14th Five-Year Plan" for the development of higher education in Hubei Province, the College has been listed as a key construction project for both Hubei Province and Yichang City, signifying its strategic importance in nurturing talents for the burgeoning aerospace sector.
Positioned in Yichang, the vice-provincial center city of Hubei Province, and harmoniously integrated within the central precinct of Dianjun District's Science and Education City, the College is strategically planned on a land area of 1,100 mu (over 181 acres), under a projected total investment exceeding 2 billion yuan, with the expected construction to be completed in two phases. In order to meet Phase I's requirements for an enrollment capacity of 5,000 students, the College adheres to the concept of "green, ecological, and environmental-friendly" construction, and has built nearly 200,000 square meters of campus buildings on the allocated 568 mu (over 94 acres) of land. This includes nearly 20 separate buildings such as teaching and laboratory buildings, an administrative building, aircraft maintenance hangars, a library, a gymnasium, a college student activity center, dormitories, dining halls, and staff residences. We take pride in its recruitment of 287 full-time professors, among whom over 70% are holders of postgraduate credentials. Additionally, our College features 9 centers that host 53 laboratories, educational and research infrastructure valued at over 51 million yuan, and a library collection comprising 410,000 printed volumes and 100,000 electronic books. Through significant investment and adherence to high standards, this newly born college has successfully launched its advanced digital campus. In its first batch of offerings, Three Gorges Aviation College plans to establish six undergraduate majors: Flight Technology, Aircraft Manufacturing Engineering, Aircraft Operation and Maintenance Engineering, Logistics Management (Aviation Direction), Computer Technology, and English. Through establishing collaborative partnerships with more than 60 enterprises, such as the Hubei Airport Group, Ezhou Huahu International Airport, China Special Aircraft Research Institute, BELINCO (Yichang) Aircraft Overhaul Engineering Co., Ltd, and others, our College aims to offer students advantageous prospects for internships, practical training, and potential employment opportunities.
