Established in 2002 with the approval of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, the College of International Business and Economics (CIBE), WTU operates as a full-time, general institution of higher education empowered to grant bachelor's degrees, and collaboratively supported by Wuhan Textile University (WTU) and Union Times Education Development Co., Ltd. The educational lineage of the college can be traced back to the establishment of the Hubei Provincial Foreign Trade School in 1958. Presently, the College accommodates a student population exceeding 15,000, which includes in excess of 9,500 undergraduate students. Located in the heart of the Optics Valley, and adjacent to Tangxun Lake, the College epitomizes a progressive university that integrates the core tenets of ecology, technology, and humanity, cultivating a supportive environment for educational endeavors and personal development.
CIBE is designed and constructed with an international perspective, embracing an ecological, technological, and humanistic campus environment. Spanning over 1,000 mu (approximately 165 acres), the campus boasts a total building area exceeding 500,000 square meters. It features modern facilities, including teaching buildings, a library, an art museum, a gymnasium, an innovation and entrepreneurship center, an internship and training center, a college student activity center, and a modern industry college. Its academic programs are anchored by economics, management, and arts disciplines, fostering a multidisciplinary system that harmoniously integrates economics, management, arts, engineering, and humanities. Currently, CIBE comprises the School of Economics and Management, the School of Arts, the School of Engineering, and the School of Foreign Languages, offering 27 undergraduate programs and 12 associate degree programs. This comprehensive approach ensures a balanced and diverse educational environment for students.
The College has implemented a Talent Cultivation and Recruitment Initiative, currently employing nearly 800 faculty members, among which 62% hold intermediate to senior professional titles, and 67% possess postgraduate degrees or higher. Through a collaborative partnership with WTU, a reputable higher education institution, CIBE benefits from the expertise of high-caliber faculty members who are seconded by WTU to provide teaching and management support. This collaborative arrangement fosters resource sharing, and mutual strengths, thereby fortifying the foundation for the College's academic and administrative endeavors.
Over the span of two decades, the College has achieved significant development in education and global engagement. It has fostered strong international ties through a variety of cooperation and exchange programs with more than 20 esteemed universities across the globe, including institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand. Complementing this global outlook, it has also strategically placed emphasis on hands-on learning, establishing an extensive network of over 100 off-campus internship and training sites. So far, it has proudly graduated over 30,000 students, well-equipped to contribute to society. In the past five years alone, our students have garnered upwards of 1,000 national and provincial awards from prestigious competitions, including the "Internet Plus" contest, the "Challenge Cup," the National College Students' E-commerce 'Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship' Challenge, the National Advertising Art Design Competition for College Students, the National Arts and Design Contest, China Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, the National English Competition, the FLTRP Cup English Speech Contest and National College Students' Arts Festival. These achievements serve as evidence of our steadfast commitment to nurturing innovation, practical competencies, and outstanding performance among its student populace.
