Established in 2003 as part of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wenhua College (WHC) is situated in the east center of Wuhan, within China's renowned Optics Valley. Drawing extensively from the rich educational heritage of the globally acclaimed HUST, WHC was granted the privilege to confer bachelor's degrees in 2012. Later, in 2014, the Ministry of Education recognized and approvedi ts conversion into an autonomous institution of higher learning, thereby affirming itss tatus as an independent undergraduate university.


College-running Philosophy: Committed to the full implementation of China's educational directives, we steadfastly maintain a socialist approach to college management, ensuring the fundamental mission of cultivating virtue and nurturing talents. Under the principles of public welfare and non-profit in our educational endeavors, the college has embraced the educational creed of "prioritizing education first and quality above all," while championing our college motto "Erudition and Aspiration. Endeavor and Enlightenment.” Dedicated to student-centered education and nurturing practical talents through a tailored educational experience, our 30-year strategic plan, "a decade of establishment, a decade of advancement, and a decade of refinement," aims to elevate our institution into a regionally-grounded, application-oriented distinguished undergraduate university of distinction.


College Running Characteristics: WHC is committed to offering a bespoke educational experience for each student, adopting "personalized education" as a hallmark strategic initiative to underpin the fundamental mission of nurturing thev irtues and moral fiber of our students. Through the development ofdi scipline-specific departments and faculties, the College has ensured a high caliberof educational outcomes by leading in the cultivation of professional specialties andenh ancing our application-oriented talent training. The joint efforts of more than tenyear s have culminated in the creation of the "Three-Nine" personalized educationmod el at WHC. This comprehensive framework is designed to address everystude nt's three pivotal aspects: their potential, aspirations, and room for growth. Itfocuse s on three distinct student categories --- academic, skill-based, andpotenti al-driven --- and catalyzes three key actions: individualized planning,customi zed curricula, and one-on-one mentorship from outstanding lecturers. Thisapproac h ensures that personalized education engages every stakeholder --- students,teacher s, and staff alike. Furthermore, WHC has instituted a mature undergraduatepotentia l mentoring system, enhancing the training regime for the threeaforeme ntioned student types. Specifically, the College has put into action the"Three-O ne Actions," which covers one individual plan for each student, one uniquetimetabl e for them, and one exemplary course represented by each teacher. Theembrace of this initiative across all students and faculty has paved the way for amultidi mensional autonomous learning space, where every student is empoweredand ins pired to achieve success.


Faculty Members: WHC pursues a dual strategy of introducing distinguished faculty and nurturing its own, while inviting nationally renowned educators and esteemed experts in relevant fields to assume roles as academic leaders and senior administrators. This strategic approach has helped form a robust teaching corps comprising 881 full-time instructors, with an impressive 602 of them cultivated internally by the College itself. Within this pool, 94.85% boast advanced degrees at the master's or doctoral level, 209 hold prestigious senior titles of associate senior rank or higher, and 203 possess dual qualifications as both educators and industry professionals in their respective fields. This wealth of faculty resources significantly surpasses the national benchmarks required for the cultivation of application-oriented talents.


College Conditions: WHC spans an area of 1.23 square kilometers, being comprised of two campuses located in Wuhan and Hong'an respectively. The College owns a total of 318,200 m2 contributed to teaching and administrative buildings, 58,200 m2 allocated for sports facilities, and 185,100 m2 designated for student dormitories. The cumulative value of the College's fixed assets has reached an impressive 1,322,058,000 yuan, stressing its robust infrastructure and resource investment. In a bid to foster hands-on learning and practical skills, WHC has established a diverse array of 98 distinct laboratories. Furthermore, the College has formed partnerships with various entities, resulting in an extensive network of 233 internship and training bases both affiliated with the College and externally sourced. This commitment to experiential education is augmented by the presence of a national-level maker space, along with provincial and municipal-level innovation and entrepreneurship education bases. These platforms offer a combined incubation area of 3,500 m2, providing students with fertile ground for creativity and business ventures. With a library collection of 1.553 million books, the well-equipped campus has become an admirable environment, adorned with lush greenery and a majestic grove of crimson maple trees. That's why it has earned the title of the "highly attractive campus in Wuhan".


Talent Cultivation: WHC currently hosts a vibrant community of 17,882 full-time students, with a cohort of 15,351 undergraduates and 2,531 students of associate degrees. The College has honed its focus on the development of application-oriented talents, forging strategic industry-university-research partnerships with distinguished entities such as Huazhong CNC, ZTE, JSX Robot, JOYE3D, among others, resulting in the collaborative establishment of 10 dedicated educational platforms. WHC's commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship is further evidenced by several accolades and distinctions, including the recognition of national-level maker spaces, provincial-level college student entrepreneurship demonstration bases, and the esteemed title of the College Students' Entrepreneurship Institute of Wuhan, along with other honorary qualifications that feature its achievements in nurturing practical and creative minds. Over the past three years, WHC has witnessed its students achieving remarkable innovation milestones with 51 patents registered. Their creative projects have also received significant recognition, garnering national-level funding for 32 projects and provincial-level support for 87 projects through the National College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program. Additionally, WHC maintains a strong academic environment with a CET-4 (College English Test Band 4) pass rate of over 50% and a commendable physical fitness test pass rate exceeding 85%. We take pride in 735 students who have advanced to respected master's degree programs at various distinguished universities. Our students have not only succeeded in their academic pursuits but have also triumphed in various cultural and sports competitions, winning 2,313 provincial and national awards. Furthermore, they have contributed to community services through 12 provincial and municipal-level volunteer projects. WHC has fostered a culture of excellence, recognizing exemplary models such as "Stars of Self-improvement for College Students" and "Yangtze River College Students," embodying the exceptional quality and unwavering spirit of accomplishment that characterize our student body.


Disciplines and Majors: WHC features a comprehensive academic structure, comprising 8 distinct faculties, including the Faculty of Basic Sciences, the Faculty of Marxism, the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the Faculty of Information Science and Technology, the Faculty of Urban Construction Engineering, the Faculty of Economics and Management, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Foreign Languages. Presently, the College offers 41 undergraduate programs, covering a broad spectrum of disciplines such as engineering, literature, management, economics, law, and arts. This diverse range forms a coordinated developmental framework, focusing on the cultivation of application-oriented disciplines and specialties. WHC exemplifies academic distinction with its multiple accolades and recognitions. It houses one national-level first-class undergraduate major construction unit, eight provincial-level first-class undergraduate major construction units, twenty provincial-level first-class undergraduate courses, and two provincial-level advantageous characteristic discipline groups, all of which emphasize the College's commitment to academic excellence and innovative curriculum development. The College is also home to a provincial-level key teaching laboratory demonstration center, symbolizing its investment in cutting-edge research facilities. In addition, there is a provincial-level internship and training base, as well as a provincial-level talent training base for service outsourcing, offering students valuable hands-on training opportunities. Furthermore, we are proud to have 4 provincial-level teaching teams and 4 provincial-level grassroots teaching organizations, which create a collaborative and nurturing environment for faculty and students alike. Recognized for its comprehensive approach to education, the College has been awarded 33 industry-university-research collaborative education projects approved by the Ministry of Education. This demonstrates a successful integration of academic theory with practical application, preparing students well for their future careers. In the realm of academic research, WHC has spearheaded 81 teaching research projects at or above the provincial level, solidifying its position as a trailblazer in educational innovation. Moreover, the college has received five provincial-level teaching achievement awards, illustrating the dedication and accomplishments of its faculty members in advancing educational excellence.


Scientific Research: WHC's scientific research capabilities are fortified by 34 robust platforms, including two provincial key scientific research bases (centers) and eight provincial scientific research innovation teams, which serve as engines for scholarly inquiry and innovation. The College's commitment to research strength is reflected in its numerous grants and projects. It has successfully obtained funding for four projects from the prestigious National Natural Science Foundation of China, two projects from the National Social Science Fund of China, and two projects from the National Education Science Planning. Furthermore, 89 projects have been awarded at the provincial and ministerial level, underlining the WHC's strong research portfolio. In the past three years, the College's research endeavors have yielded 31 nationally authorized patents, of which nine are invention patents, presenting a high level of inventiveness and innovation. In response to the needs of local industries and enterprises, WHC has actively engaged in 67 interdisciplinary projects, with 12 of these projects each receiving funding exceeding one million yuan. The close collaboration between academia and industry not only enhances the practical implementation of research discoveries but also magnifies the College's impact in fostering regional economic prosperity and technological advancement.


 International Cooperation: WHC has formed extensive international partnerships, establishing collaborative ties with twelve universities across eight different countries and regions, including the United Kingdom, the United States, and Australia. Our partnerships extend to esteemed institutions like the University of Nottingham in the UK and the University of California, Los Angeles, allowing us to provide joint bachelor's and master's degree programs, short-term overseas exchange opportunities, and access to online elective courses from renowned global universities. Over the past three years, we have successfully integrated global perspectives into our educational framework, helping a total of 67 students enroll in our specialized international program class. Additionally, 26 students and 6 faculty members have embarked on overseas educational journeys for further study, enriching their academic experiences and professional development. Moreover, 179 students have successfully applied for overseas master's degree programs, reflecting WHC's commitment to providing a gateway for global education and experiences for its instructors. In conclusion, WHC's active international partnerships have not only broadened the horizons of its students and faculty but have also solidified the College's position as a leading institution dedicated to fostering global education and enriching the academic journey of its community.


Social Reputation: WHC has gained a distinguished reputation for the caliber of its students and high employment rates, positioning it as a frontrunner among its peers in Hubei Province. Over the past three years, the College has consistently achieved top-tier admission scores in physics and history among private colleges and universities in Hubei for Gaokao (Nationwide Unified Examination for Admissions to General Universities and Colleges). The average enrollment rate for new students exceeds 95%, while the initial employment rate surpasses 83%, both metrics significantly outperforming the provincial average. A recent survey by an independent third party revealed that both our graduates and employers share a high level of satisfaction with WHC, surpassing an impressive 90% approval rate. The personalized educational approach and unique features of the College have received commendations from such nationally eminent education authorities as Pan Maoyuan and Gu Mingyuan. For the past five years, we have maintained a track record of excellence, surpassing all other private undergraduate institutions in Hubei Province and claiming the coveted top position in the Application-oriented University Rankings endorsed by the Guangzhou Daily. Furthermore, for three consecutive years, WHC


has been recognized by Xinhua Net as both "China’s Socially Influential Private University" and "China’s Socially Influential University for Employment," showing our great impact on society and our graduates' successful integration into the workforce. Notably, in the annual "Top 100 Chinese Private Universities" ranking conducted by the Alumni Association, the College maintained a position within the top two for several years, and we have been honored with the title of "Six-Star Private University in China," underscoring our exceptional standing and excellence in the private higher education sector. Our educational uniqueness and exemplary training experiences have been repeatedly featured by leading media outlets including "xuexi.cn," "Guangming Daily," and "China Education Daily."
