Concentration: Bilingual Preschool Educator


Educational Objectives


This major is set to foster high-quality skilled professionals who pay attention to moral and technical improvement across the board, accommodate the needs of socialist economy and social development, are fluent in spoken English expression, possess early childhood education theoretical knowledge and skills, and are well positioned to engage in early childhood education, teaching and research, training and management in kindergartens and related education and training institutions.


Fundamental Courses

 

Spoken English, English Phonetics, English Listening and Speaking, Comprehensive English, Preschool Education English, English Teaching Method, Nursery Knowledge and Ability, Overall Quality of Preschool Educators, Piano, Preschool Dance and Basics, Art, Building of Bilingual Teaching Environment, Preschool Children's Behavior and Observation, Preschool Children’s Games and Guidance, Kindergarten Teaching Activity Organization, Teaching, Courseware Production, Impromptu Accompaniment of Children’s Songs, and Story Speech for Preschool Children, etc.


Job Prospects


With the continuous development of China's social economy and its opening wider to the outside world, kindergartens and training institutions call for a large number of bilingual educators. This major emphasizes practical teaching, pays attention to the cultivation of students' capacity of language practice, and effectively combines language and vocational skills training. After graduation, students may engage in health care and education, training management and other jobs in kindergartens as well as corresponding educational institutions such as English early education centers, and primary and secondary school training institutions.

This major is intended to train high-leveled skilled professionals in conformity with the needs of socialist economy and social development, who have a solid foundation in English and Chinese, develop the expertise and ability of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and are well positioned to work for universities, educational institutions, and primary and secondary schools at home and abroad in education, teaching and research, training, management and other jobs.

Modern Chinese, Theory and Practice of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, Chinese Culture, Chinese Cultural Accomplishment, Classroom Competency and Communication, Comprehensive English, English Listening and Speaking, English for Preschool Education, English Teaching Method, Spoken English, English Phonetics, Children's Games and Guidance, and Social Etiquette.


Job Prospects


With the growth of China's comprehensive national strength and the improvement of its international status, countries around the world have greatly increased the demand for talents who can speak Chinese. The global growth in demand for Chinese language learning will inevitably drive the growth of teachers of Chinese as a foreign language. According to incomplete statistics, there was a shortage of over 7 million Chinese language teachers globally as of 2020. In addition to domestic online platforms for teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages, primary and secondary schools, kindergartens and large-scale language training institutions in Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, South Korea, Japan, the United States and other countries are also in urgent need of a large number of Chinese-based educators. This major highlights practical teaching, values the cultivation of students' ability of language practice, and effectively blends language skills with vocational training. After graduation, students may engage in teaching and administrative work in overseas kindergartens and primary and secondary schools, and Chinese classes in overseas universities as well as educational institutions such as large language training institutions, domestic online platforms for teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages, English training companies, and English training centers, or in education, teaching and research, and training in sectors such as primary and secondary schools.
