Water Supply and Drainage Science & Engineering


Bachelor’s degree (four years)


Training objectives: This program equips the students with the knowledge of urban water intake engineering, water supply engineering, drainage (rainwater and sewage) engineering, building water supply and drainage engineering, industrial water supply and drainage engineering, the construction of sponge cities and comprehensive utility tunnels, water pollution control planning, and the utilization and protection of water resources; the ability to work practical jobs related to water supply and drainage engineering through basic training; and a strong capability of innovation.


Characteristic advantages: This program features a reasonable structure of teachers (60% hold the job title of associate professor or above and 60% hold the title of “double qualified teacher”) and focuses on the cultivation of practical abilities such as practical engineering design and building information modelling (BIM). The program provides perfect laboratories for chemistry, biology, and water treatment as well as BIM laboratories and teachers’ workrooms (undertaking actual engineering projects). About 25% of the students of the program are accepted into postgraduate programs every year, among which about half of them have been admitted to the master’s degree programs of key universities, such as the Huazhong University of Science and Technology and the Wuhan University of Technology. The employment rates for the students of this program have been maintained over 95%.


Main courses: Engineering Mechanics, Hydraulics and Analytical Chemistry of Water, Biology for Water and Wastewater Treatment, Water Pumps and Water Pump Stations, Water Process Equipment, Water Supply and Drainage Pipe Network Systems, Water Quality Engineering, Building Water Supply and Drainage Engineering, Industrial Water Supply and Drainage Engineering, Water Process Instruments, New Technologies for Water Supply Control (including the construction of sponge cities and comprehensive utility tunnels), etc.

Employment prospects: To engage in the planning, design, construction, management, research, and development of water supply and drainage engineering projects in an urban planning and design institute, a municipal engineering design institute, an architectural design institute, a real estate company, a construction engineering company, a municipal engineering company, a fire department, a water group, a drainage company, or an environmental protection company; or enter a government department related to environmental protection by passing the civil servant examination.
