Founded in 2002 with the approval of Hubei Provincial Government and the record of Ministry of Education, Wuhan College of Foreign Languages and Foreign Affairs (WCFLFA) is the first higher vocational college in Central China to train advanced technical and skilled professionals with foreign language expertise.
WCFLFA is located on the shore of East Lake, enjoying the beautiful scenery of the famous scenic spot East Lake Greenway in Wuhan. The campus is adjacent to Wuhan Railway Station in the north. Various means of transportation (such as high-speed rail, subway, and bus) make travelling here particularly convenient. The campus covers an area of more than 480 mu, with a construction area of more than 300000 square meters and advanced teaching and living facilities. The total value of teaching equipment is more than 32 million yuan. The library has a collection of more than 630,000 books and more than 1 million electronic books.
At present, the College has 35 majors, among which High-speed Railway Passenger Service is the provincial characteristic major, and Tourism English is the key major of Wuhan City. It enrolls students from all over the country and has more than 7,000 students.
WCFLFA is run based on the needs of the society, focusing on cultivating students’ practical ability and creating excellent conditions for students’ practice and training. It has more than 50 on-campus experimental and training rooms, and more than 170 off-campus internship and employment bases. In order to create a good language learning environment, the College has set up a multi-lingual independent learning center with comprehensive functions, including more than 400 open independent foreign language learning rooms, simultaneous interpretation training rooms, teaching recording and broadcasting rooms, teaching and television viewing rooms, overseas radio and TV satellite receiving stations, etc.).
The College has 400 experienced “double-qualified teachers”, 35% of whom are professors or associate professors, 80% of whom have master’s or doctor’s degree, and 11 of them are Chutian Skillful Teachers. In order to strengthen foreign language teaching and reflect the characteristics of international education, the College has hired more than ten full-time foreign teachers from the United States, Britain, Australia, Japan, South Korea and other countries to conduct foreign language teaching.
WCFLFA adheres to the orientation of cultivating high-quality, skilled, technical and service-oriented talents, takes foreign language + professional skills as the characteristics of talent training, and actively promotes the reform of teaching and talent training models. It has two Hubei Famous Teacher Studios in the major of Advanced Nursing and Motor Train Crew. The College has great achievements and good social reputation, and has been awarded by the Provincial College Working Committee and the Provincial Department of Education for many times.
With solid professional knowledge and skills, students have won awards in various national and provincial vocational skills competitions, such as the first and second prizes in Hubei Division of the National Vocational College Practical Oral English Competition, the second prize in the National College Student Mathematical Contest in Modeling, the third prize in Hubei Translation Competition, the second prize in Yonyou Cup National College students Accounting Informatization skills Competition, the second and third prizes in National POCIB Students’ Foreign Trade Competency Competition. Many young teachers won the second and third prizes in the National Vocational School Information Teaching Competition and the National Universities Micro-Teaching Competition hosted by Ministry of Education.
In order to cultivate talents that meet the needs of the society, the College vigorously promotes school-enterprise cooperation, and has established close cooperative relations with local governments and enterprises in the economically developed regions of the Yangtze River Delta and Wuhan City Circle. We have cooperated to establish 170 off-campus internship bases, arranged students to work in the enterprises in the 2 + 1 mode, and adopt the employment policy of two-way selection in the process of internship. WCFLFA gives full play to its geographical advantage of being located in the core area of Wuhan Optics Valley, and establishes a close school-government cooperation relationship with Administration of Wuhan East Lake High-Tech Development Zone. Under the leadership of the government talent department, the College integrates into the regional and industrial development, and trains supporting service talents for enterprises in High-Tech Development Zone. The employment rate of its graduates has always maintained in the forefront of similar colleges in the province.
In 2009, the Wuhan-Guangzhou high-speed railway was officially put into operation. The College seized the opportunity to cooperate in depth with the railway department to train high speed train attendants. At present, WCFLFA has established close cooperative relations with Wuhan Railway Bureau, Nanchang Railway Bureau, and Shanghai Railway Bureau, and has trained and delivered more than 1,000 high speed train attendants, becoming a veritable train attendant training base. In May 2013, the College joined the Hubei Rail Transit Vocational Education Group, and the internship training center established in cooperation with the Wuhan Railway Bureau was approved as a provincial internship training base. WCFLFA has also established a close cooperative relationship with Marriott International Hotel Group, and adopted the management mode and business service concept of international hotels in training five-star hotel management talents. Japanese, Korean, French, Spanish and other foreign languages are also the features of the College. With the gradual promotion of the national Belt and Road strategy and the transformation and upgrading of economic construction, there is a strong demand for foreign language talents. The graduates of Applied English, French, Spanish, and Business Japanese have good development space and are in short supply. Accounting, Computer Application Technology, Management, Business, Nursing and Automotive Technical Services are the traditional advantageous majors of the College. All the above majors are equipped with stable internship and employment bases, and the employment rate and quality have always maintained a high level.
WCFLFA adheres to open education and cooperates with colleges and universities in Britain, the United States, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Spain and other countries as well as Taiwan. Students can choose to be sent to the above-mentioned colleges and universities for short-term exchange and study. After graduation, they can apply to the above-mentioned cooperative colleges and universities for pursuing bachelor’s and master’s degrees. So far, more than 300 students have been to abroad to improve their academic levels through international cooperation.
