Wenhua in Clouds League is a league of higher education institutions under the Meilian Education Group, committing itself to exploring the innovation of institutional mechanism and the organization system of modernization of higher education governance. The League adheres to the philosophy of cooperation, coordination, opening-up, and innovation, striving to improve the intensive development of colleges and universities, and to improve the capability to serve the local economic and social development. With the purpose of promoting people’s all-round development, the League provides a new platform for teachers to carry out teaching and research wholeheartedly and for students to devote themselves to learning and becoming talents and expands their development space. At the same time, the League is also an open window to strengthen the extensive ties between the allied colleges and the society, and gives full play to the intellectual and resource advantages of the allied colleges in the fields of college-enterprise cooperation, college-region scientific and technological cooperation, talents cooperation, and international education cooperation with colleges and universities in other countries. The League exerts itself to transform the cooperation mechanism into the internal driving force for the development of allied colleges, and urges allied colleges to highlight their characteristics and play their positive roles in adapting to the future modernization of higher education, in the aspects of widely integrating into the relevant fields of economic and social development and promoting cultural exchange and transmission.
At present, Wenhua in Clouds League has four undergraduate institutions and three higher vocational schools, which are Wenhua College, Wuhan City College, College of International Business and Economics of WTU, College of Arts and Science of Hubei Normal University,Wuhan College of Foreign Languages and Foreign Affairs, Wuhan Business and Trade Vocational College,and Wuhan Guanggu Vocational College. In addition, another school is being built,which is Hubei Aviation University(Preparatory). Now the League has nearly 90000 undergraduates and junior college students with the campuses in Wuhan, Huangshi, Yichang, etc.
After more than ten years of educational exploration and practice, based on the needs of regional economic and social development and industrial development planning in Hubei, Wenhua in Clouds League continues to deepen the school-running orientation of region-oriented and application-oriented higher education and adheres to the characteristic, differential and innovative development. Adhering to the close combination of scientific research and teaching, Wenhua College actively serves the local economic and social development, has set up six characteristic major orientations and five characteristic major groups in the pilot project of transformation and development in Hubei Province, and has a number of provincial excellent courses, provincial high-quality courses, provincial key disciplines, undergraduate programs of talent cultivating plan for strategic emerging (pillar) industries. It is equipped with Provincial Key Demonstration Center for Experimental Education of Hubei Higher Education, Provincial Practice Training Base of Hubei Higher Education, Hubei Brand Development Research Center, Hubei Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Center, Hubei Talent Training Base for New Media Service Outsourcing and other provincial institutions. At the same time, the personalized education of Wenhua College is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people and has prominent characteristics. Wenhua College has created the “39 personalized education model”, which refers to three types of students (namely academic students, practical students and potential students), three key points (potential, ambition and space) and three one project (one plan for each person, one curriculum schedule for each student, one excellent course for each teacher). The College strives to provide suitable education for each student and follows the path of personalized education which is respecting students, strict requirements, scientific guidance and self-study. The College will create a diverse and innovative talent cultivating model, implement personalized education, and strive to create a campus environment and atmosphere conducive to the healthy growth of innovative and practical talents.
Wuhan City College aims to cultivate high-quality, compound and application-oriented talents with good ethics, sound academic knowledge, outstanding personality and social responsibility who can better serve Wuhan City Circle, Hubei industrial cluster, and even Central China Economic Belt. Based on computer science and technology, the major group supported by big data and knowledge-based system in artificial intelligence has been established to create a high-level application-oriented talent cultivating model for engineering innovation in new industries. Based on the nursing major, the nursing and medical major group serves the medical, nursing and pension industries and constructs a college-hospital collaborative education model characterized by nursing and teaching synergy. The e-commerce logistics major group is based on the major of business administration and has a professional curriculum system characterized by new business format, innovation and entrepreneurship. The College vigorously promotes the reform of the application-oriented talent cultivating mode for undergraduates, focuses on the construction of new engineering discipline, new medicine discipline and new business discipline, strengthens the application-oriented construction, and has strong teaching force and high teaching level. At present, there are 7 provincial key majors, 3 provincial teaching teams and 1 provincial practice and training base. Since 2016, the College has 6 provincial and ministerial scientific research achievement awards, 6 authorized invention patents, 1 project supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China and 1 project supported by the National Social Science Fund of China. Besides, the College has undertaken 25 projects in the fields of technology development, technical service and technical consultation and so on. The total amount of scientific research funds in recent three years is nearly 5 million yuan. The College attaches great importance to establishing a collaborative education mechanism with government, colleges, industries and enterprises. 175 practice training bases have been established in economically developed areas such as the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta and the Wuhan Metropolitan Area. The College has hired and trained 57 double-qualified teachers. The Department of Medicine has established stable college-enterprise cooperation with more than 40 first-class hospitals such as Tongji Hospital and Union Hospital, greatly improving the effect of collaborative education. In recent three years, the College has got 550 awards in various national-level competitions for college students, 77 national and provincial innovation and entrepreneurship training programs for college students, 30 collaborative education programs of the Ministry of Education, and has cultivated a large number of compound talents welcomed by enterprises. The employment rate of students is stable at more than 93% and the employer satisfaction rate is more than 90%.
With the environmental advantage of being adjacent to China (Hubei) Pilot Free Trade Zone Wuhan Area, College of International Business and Economics of WTU highlights the characteristics of some majors like foreign trade, fashion design, and textile engineering. In the process of cultivating talents, the College combines major with industry and curriculum with profession and has cultivated for Wuhan, Hubei and even the whole country a large number of high-quality technical and skilled talents with sound academic knowledge, who are pragmatic, innovative and good at cooperation.
Located in the southeast of Hubei Province, the College of Arts and Science of Hubei Normal University, which was co-founded by Hubei Normal University, spotlights the characteristics of the education of teachers and aims to be an application-oriented independent college which can meet the needs of the grassroots, serve grassroots construction in the province and even the country, and have strong competitiveness among similar colleges and universities in the province. At present, the College has 2 national characteristic majors, 3 provincial advantageous and characteristic disciplines, 5 provincial key disciplines, 6 provincial brand majors, 10 provincial excellent courses and 8 provincial high-quality courses.
Wuhan College of Foreign Languages and Foreign Affairs adheres to the school-running orientation of cultivating high-quality skilled, technical and service-oriented talents, takes foreign language and professional skills as the characteristics of its talent cultivating, and actively promotes the reform of teaching and talent cultivating mode. There are two provincial teaching studios respectively in Advanced Nursing Major and Motor Train Crew Major. High-speed Rail Passengers’ Coach Service is a characteristic major in Hubei Province and Tourism English is a key major in Wuhan. Meanwhile, the College takes the opportunities of implementing the Belt and Road Initiative and the need for transformation and upgrading of economic construction, and vigorously optimizes Japanese, Korean, French, Spanish and other minor language majors. The College has built more than 50 on-campus practical training rooms and more than 170 off-campus practice bases and employment bases. Among them, the practice training center established in cooperation with Wuhan Railway Bureau has been approved as a provincial practice training base. Under the close cooperation with Marriott International Hotel Group, the College introduces the management mode and business service concept of international hotels and cultivates managerial and administrative talents directly for five-star hotels. With solid professional knowledge and skills, students won honors and awards in various national and provincial vocational skills competitions, such as the first prizes and the second prizes in Hubei Division of the National Practical English Speaking Contest for Professional College Students, the second prizes in Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, the third prizes in Hubei Province Foreign Language Translation Contest, the second prizes in Yongyou Cup National Undergraduates ERP Contest, the second prizes and the third prizes in Practice for Operational Competence in International Business. Wuhan Business and Trade Vocational College mainly cultivates talents in modern service industry, especially in aviation and health industry, covering the majors of 12 industries such as finance and trade, electronic information, tourism, transportation, medicine and health, food and grain, civil construction, equipment manufacturing, news communication, culture and art, education and sports, and public management and service. Hubei Aviation University is in the process of application and construction. The University will serve for the strategy of national civil aviation power, provincial and local aviation industry, and regional economic development. It will cultivate high-level talents in flight technology, aviation engineering construction and civil aviation transportation management who are urgently needed for the development of civil aviation transportation industry, and train application-oriented technical talents urgently needed in the fields of local aviation tourism, financial management and informatization. The University will apply to set up 6 undergraduate majors in the first batch and increase the number of majors to 20 at the end of its first five-year plan, forming an application-oriented major system with aviation characteristics. At that time, transportation, aerospace and machinery will serve as the main disciplines and management as the auxiliary disciplines. At the end of the second five-year plan, the enrolled students scale will be 10 thousand people. The total number of majors will be close to 30 and some provincial key disciplines and majors will be built.
